Doctor for Life is now offering Telemedicine Visits, where you are able to schedule a virtual visit or phone-call with Dr. Sarmiento.

Call our office to schedule a visit without having to come into the office!

(864) 640-0009

Testing options available:

- Throat swab: tests whether the patient is currently infected with the virus

- Blood test (IGM, IGG): tests whether the patient has been exposed to the virus and has developed antibodies in the blood -- only able to detect 5+ days after the exposure date

Schedule an appointment with Dr. Sarmiento to determine which test option is most beneficial to you.

*At this time, Doctor for Life is only able to offer testing to existing and new patients who have been or are becoming established with our practice.*

Symptoms to look for:

1. Fever (temperature over 100F)

2. New, continuous cough

3. Shortness of breath/difficulty breathing

4. Fatigue

5. Sore throat

6. Headaches and other aches/pains

*If you experience any of these symptoms - especially fever and cough - make sure you isolate yourself immediately! If you have to leave the house, wear a mask to prevent the spread*

Managing Symptoms at Home

- Drink plenty of fluids -- enough water so that your urine is pale and clear.
Avoid alcohol and caffeine, which can make you more dehydrated
- Get lots of rest -- make sure you are isolating yourself at home and avoid
  strenuous activity
- Use over-the-counter medications to treat some of your symptoms
(Tylenol 325mg tablets, Mucinex, Robitussin, Dayquil/Nyquil) - any cough suppressant and expectorant that works best for you
- Any fever over 101F, take Tylenol 325mg tablets only (NSAIDs like aspirin,
ibuprofen, and naproxen could potentially aggravate the infection - but if
you're prescribed one of these, continue to take your medications as
  prescribed)
- Use a humidifier (you can also turn the shower on hot and sit in the
  bathroom, breathing in the steam)
- Utilize online COVID-19 checkers
- Asthma patients should make sure their inhalers are not expired and they
  are taking medications as prescribed
- Patients with pre-existing lung conditions (COPD, emphysema, lung
cancer) or are on immunosuppressants should speak with their providers
and specialists to discuss a plan of action if you do present symptoms
- DO NOT take left over antibiotics from past infections

*Do NOT go to the ER unless symptoms are severe - hospital beds are being used for people who actively need oxygen/breathing treatments and/or IV fluids. One in five people who contract COVID-19 will require hospital care.*
